HOW DOES NANO-TEX RESISTS SPILLS™ FABRIC PROTECTION
WORK?
Tiny “whiskers” aligned by proprietary “spines,”
are designed to repel liquids and are attached to the fibers utilizing
molecular “hooks”. These “whiskers” and
“hooks” are very, very small… in fact they are
no more than 1/1000th the size of a cotton fiber. Because the
chemistry is created on a “nano-scale” the performance
is durable and the hand and breathability are not altered.

WHAT MAKES NANO-TEX RESISTS
SPILLS FABRIC PROTECTION DIFFERENT FROM OTHER TREATMENTS?
Conventional repellent technologies perform more like a coating
and tend to wash or wear away over time, ultimately degrading
performance. The addition of these conventional coatings can have
a negative affect on the hand and breathability of the fabric.
Because the chemical is on a “nano-scale”, Nano-Tex
Resists Spills fabrics achieve unsurpassed durability without
sacrificing the natural hand and breathability of the fabric.

HOW IS NANO-TEX RESISTS
SPILLS PROTECTION APPLIED TO THE FABRIC?
Nano-Tex Resists Spills protection is applied to fabrics at the
mill level during the finishing process. The enhancement can also
be applied to garments, in garment processing laundries, but cannot
be applied by consumers at home.

IS NANO-TEX RESISTS SPILLS
FABRIC PROTECTION PART OF THE FIBER?
Nano-Tex fabric protection is a chemical enhancement, attached
at the molecular level, to fundamentally transform the fibers.

WILL NANO-TEX RESISTS
SPILLS FABRIC PROTECTION REPEL KETCHUP AND MUSTARD?
Ketchup and mustard contain organic colorants and are difficult
stains for any fabric (mustard more so than ketchup). The benefit
of Nano-Tex Resists Spills fabrics, with these types of semi-solid
consumer products, is that the ketchup or mustard will sit on
top of the fabric surface rather than soak in immediately. This
allows the wearer of the garment time to lift off the spill, thus
minimizing the potential for staining.

WILL NANO-TEX RESISTS
SPILLS FABRIC PROTECTION REPEL INK?
Inks and dyes contain concentrated amounts of quick-drying colorants.
Fabrics treated with Nano-Tex Resists Spills protection are not
protected from these types of colorants but if lifted quickly,
stains can be minimized.

WILL NANO-TEX RESISTS
SPILLS FABRIC PROTECTION RESIST MUD STAINS?
Nano-Tex Resists Spills fabric protection protects against both
water-based and oil-based liquids. Resists Spills fabric protection
offers superior liquid repellency, which helps to minimize stains.
If the mud is sitting on the surface of the fabric, Nano-Tex fabric
protection will allow the wearer to carefully lift off the mud,
therefore minimize staining. If the mud has been ground into the
Nano-Tex Resists Spills enhanced fabric, recommended garment care
cleaning tips should be followed to minimize or prevent the potential
for staining. Mud stains or thick oils that are smeared onto fabric
may leave some residual staining.

IS NANO-TEX RESISTS SPILLS
FABRIC PROTECTION WATERPROOF? CAN IT BE USED AS A BARRIER?
Nano-Tex Resists Spills fabrics are NOT considered waterproof
nor would they be considered a barrier product but Nano-Tex Resists
Spills fabric are a superior repellant technology.

DOES NANO-TEX RESISTS
SPILLS FABRIC PROTECTION RELEASE STAINS?
Nano-Tex Resists Spills fabric protection has been designed as
a superior repellant product. While repellency and soil release
are on opposite ends of the spectrum in chemical formulation,
the nature of the repellency gives the ability to resist stains.
Nano-Tex Resists Spills fabrics focus on maximum repellency, while
balancing the need for release and maintaining the natural hand
and breathability of the fabric. Nano-Tex has established the
performance specifications for the fabric based around repellant
benefits.

IF NANO-TEX RESISTS
SPILLS FABRIC PROTECTION REPELS WATER, HOW DOES THE CONSUMER WASH
THE GARMENT?
The garment will “wet out” when detergent is added
to the laundry water. Wash the garment as you would any other
garments, following the care instructions provided on the manufacturer’s
care label. Tumble drying with heat is required. For optimal performance,
steam ironing will enhance performance consistent with Nano-Tex
label.

WILL DRY CLEANING AFFECT
THE PERFORMANCE OF FABRICS TREATED WITH NANO-TEX RESISTS SPILLS
PROTECTION?
Dry cleaning is not recommended for Nano-Tex Resists Spills fabrics.
The chemicals found in typical dry cleaning solutions contaminate
the fabric and can negatively affect performance and mask the
technology.

WILL FABRIC SOFTENERS
AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF NANO-TEX RESISTS SPILLS FABRICS?
Softeners are not recommended for use by the end consumer. If
a fabric softener is desired, dryer sheets are recommended over
liquid softeners that are added to the wash process.

WILL THE NANO-TEX RESISTS
SPILLS FABRIC PROTECTION WEAR OFF?
The fabric protection is permanently attached to the fibers at
the molecular level and is designed to last the life of the fabric.
As the fibers themselves begin to break down and wear away, the
chemistry may go with them. The degree of remaining performance
depends upon how worn the fabric becomes over time.

WHERE CAN I FIND NANO-TEX
RESISTS SPILLS PRODUCTS?
Nano-Tex Resists Spills fabrics can be found in garments in the
following US brands: Eddie Bauer , Gap, Old Navy, Levi “Slates”
Wool Gabardine with Stain Defender, Lee, L.L.Bean, Bass Pro Shops,
Perry Ellis, Nautica…. and many more notable brands.
In the following Canadian brands:
Denver Hayes at Marks Work Warehouse and Canaday’s travel
wear

WHAT OTHER PRODUCTS
DOES NANO-TEX MAKE? WHERE CAN THEY BE FOUND?
Nano-Tex Coolest Comfort
fabrics provides breakthrough moisture wicking properties to draw
moisture away from the body while drying quickly. Among the brands
currently utilizing Nano-Tex Coolest Comfort are Nike, Savane,
Haggar, Levi, and Champion to name a few.

HOW DOES NANO-TEX TEST FOR PERFORMANCE
AND CAN NANO-TEX PROVIDE THE PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS FOR RESISTS
SPILLS FABRIC PROTECTION?
Test methods are as follows:
Spray Test - AATCC 22
Oil Repellency Test - AATCC 118
Home Laundry Test Conditions, with specific machine settings of
(IV)(IIA-Z)(A)(a)**.
**To ensure maximum performance, tumble-drying should be carried
out for a minimum of 45 minutes.
Performance specifications vary by fabric substrate and can be
obtained from the licensed mills from which the Resists Spills
fabrics are purchased.
