FROM
FRONT DOOR FORMAL
TO KITCHEN CHAOS
Ryan Edison, General Manager of Mecca, an upscale restaurant and
bar in San Francisco, thrives in the hectic, fast-paced world
of the restaurant industry. His position is high profile and high
visibility, so dressing appropriately is part of the job. As part
of his daily routine, Ryan frequently goes between the restaurant
floor (front of house) and the kitchen (back of house).
“The kitchen is total chaos,” he said. “People
are bumping into each other, oven doors are opening and closing,
puddles of water from the dishwasher are forming on the floor,
and food is being tossed all around.” It’s an environment
full of stains waiting to happen.
“I’ve had red wine spilled on my favorite white
French cuff dress shirt and ties fall into soup,” he remembered.
“Once someone dropped an entire stock pot in the kitchen
and we all got splashed with chicken grease.”
Recently, Ryan began wearing Nano-Tex enhanced stain-resistant
clothes from Perry Ellis and Brooks Brothers. “I’ve
had a really good experience with everything,” he said.
“It is easy to wipe off spills and keeps clean –
all positive things in this kind of work environment.”
“I would especially consider stain-resistant clothes for
the front of house staff,” Ryan mused. “They are
constantly involved with food spills and stains in a very public
environment. And, just like with my job, it’s very important
for them to keep their appearance and uniforms looking top notch.”
